Fresh Eggs!

Holy cow! After months of not having eggs because of one trauma after another. Dare I say, even forgetting the reason we have chickens is for the fresh eggs?

Goldie laid her first egg, and here it is!

I am a bit mystified as to why Lizzie still isn't laying. She's never been a prolific layer but she hasn't laid an egg ever since the raccoon attack.

But as the daylight hours get longer, they will lay more. Chickens internal clocks for egg laying is based upon how many hours of daylight there is. Since I don't have artificial light in their roost right now, it will be sparse. So good job, Goldie!

Congratulations! I do love the fresh eggs and now the kids won't eat anything but ours :)

I have a quick question...we have 4 hens (Austrolorps-sp?) and we get anywhere from 2 to 4 eggs a day on average. A couple of times we have gotten 5 eggs in one day...is that possible? We do have artificial light, which is probably why we commonly get 3 to 4 eggs a day but 5?!? Just wondering :)

It isn't completely out of the question especially if on a previous day, they didn't lay. I have nad that happen, and just count it a lucky day. That just means one little lady put an egg out twice in one day. It was probably very early in the day and very late in the day. It happens.
