I'm Going to do This!

Okay, here is my hair story.....

Seven years ago, I got sick of the gray hair creeping onto my head. I took the plunge, with my hubbie's blessing and went to a salon. We agreed that adding highlights would be a great way to cover the gray. I have done that ever since, and have normally liked the results. I look stylish, the gray is detracted from.

I don't like it anymore. I have to pay someone some bucks to do it every quarter, when I really should have it touched up every six weeks. The color fades quickly and the gray is now mixed with highlights. Plus I have more gray hair now than I did seven years ago, let's just face that reality head on.

I have never ever delved into the world of hair color! I know people who joke, "I don't know what my original hair color is." I am not in the world.

I have a friend who I noticed when I looked at older pictures of her....she colors her hair and it's not highlighted. I asked her the low down.

Get this....she does it herself, and it looks great! She gave me the scoop. No, this is not Loreal from the drug store. This is from the beauty supply store. She gave me a shopping list and some great help, instructions and advice. I am glad she did, because I walked into the store this morning and almost cried. Again, I get paralyzed by the choices we have in this country!

I am going back to my natural brunette brown, no more carmel/blonde highlights! I need to find a quiet time, at the bathroom sink, and do it. I am nervous. If I mess this up.....I am not going there. Well, that is what salons are for right?

I got a trimmed haircut this morning. That is shocking in itself. My hair is normally to the middle of my back or lower. It's just below my shoulders now.

If this turns out as great as my friend's hair looks, I will have given myself a mini makeover for a third the price of what I pay for highlights. Plus, I will have a little confidence boost before my big speaking engagement next week. But if I screw it up.....I am a little nervous! Wish me luck!

I wish you good luck. When I first colored my hair I missed a section in the back and had to redo it. After that my (now ex)husband helped to make sure I got it all.

You better post a picture - front and back of your hair! I want to see the length.

If you like the way it comes out, please post details, too! I've gotten blond highlights every 5-6 months for the last couple years, but it's so spendy and it takes a long time to wrap all the strands of hair. I just can't justify the cost...

A good friend of mine is a hairdresser and usually does it for me, so I enjoy the time visiting...but I'm thinking about just coloring my hair a lighter blond all over. I'm scared to do it in case it doesn't come out looking good, though. So, tell all if it works for you! :)

I also want to see your new length - I've only seen the long hair all the way down your back. I bet you look great with the shorter cut!

A comment from FG, something is happening where I don't get her posts to moderate:

Did you do your hair yet? I want to know how it turns out, because I'm thinking of coloring mine. I've been getting highlights for the last couple years, like you. I go 2-3 times a year, depending on how much extra money I have, and it takes forever to do! I feel like I'm at the hairdresser for hours. It's not too bad because she's a friend of mine, but I just can't justify the time or money at this point. Anyway, if your hair turns out well, please post details and a cute picture!

Love you and hope you have a good weekend!

I haven't had a chance! This has been a hectic weekend. I have all the products, now I just need a little bravery! I plan to do it in the next few days. I have a big deadline on Monday with my business, but if I can get ahead on that on Sunday, I should be able to do it Sunday night.

Yes, I will post the EXACT products I used and how I did it. Please please--everyone, feel free to comment. For those of us who have never done this, it's scary!
