One odd thing happened the other night. I went to lock up the ladies, and found an egg yolk and white sitting in like a gooey egg shell in their roost. It's like the egg was laid too early with a gooey shell. How odd! I posted to my chicken yahoo group asking if I should be alarmed. Actually, happens occasionally in pullets beginning to lay, no worries. Whew!
Where did that white egg come from? It's one of the last ones from when we were buying eggs awhile back. As you can tell, we would rather use our ladies' eggs than store bought.
So, we are enjoying coop peace and quiet right now. As spring approaches, the rats come out, so you'll be hearing some fun news about that. Yes, I said rats. Please go way back to the very beginnings of this blog under a post called "Food Chain". Once we have a nice day, we'll take the dog outside, have her sniff out the compost pile, get her on the scent of rats, lock the chickens up, arm the hubbie with the pellet gun and shovel, and shake up the compost pile. Make sure the rats know where they aren't welcome.
Yes, in your mind somewhere is that phrase, "You might be a redneck if.......".
