This story is exactly the reason why I am a huge advocate for adoption. Specifically adopting kids out of foster care.
This girl was a ward of the state of Texas almost all of her life. The only time anyone employed by the state of Texas took her seriously was when it came time to investigate her murder. You will read how the investigators realized they were her only advocates and gave their all to find the culprits. Give them a medal, and I am not kidding.
Are kids who come from the state easy? No. Plus throw in some teenage rebellion and hormones, they can test your will to the core. Was this girl a horrible person? No. She needed that strong parental figure(s) to be there for her and adopt her--not just give her foster care. In this article you will read that after a breakup with a high school boyfriend she sobbed "I just want to be loved!" She wanted a family. That is all.
Do we all have the stomach to adopt foster kids? No. Are all of them a good fit in our homes? Not at all. But those who scream out with the classic signs of just wanting attention--not selfish attention--but that daily interaction attention with a loving person that we all take for granted--those are the kids I am interested in.
She looked elsewhere. So sad.

That is very sad. My heart really goes out to those kids, too.
Oh I know! It was absolutely heartwarming to read how the homicide detectives realized she was without anyone who cared and they took that upon themselves, to show that they cared. I think that is great! I hope also some funds can be raised for a head stone for her grave. I am going to try to keep up with this story a bit.
