It Just Won't Stop

This family is still sick. I thought things were perking up yesterday. There was a rousing game of War between the two big boys. People were walking around vertically. The medications weren't needing to be replenished. Tissue boxes were going unused. What happened? The flu went through our household--twice. But it is still here.

Today, the feeling is this--we have to join the human race again. The hubbie went to work, but we don't know for how long. The last two days, he has missed. He has a major major deadline for his PhD work that he needs to get done yesterday. He is sweating it, and it's not all because he has had a fever.

I took JM to school, only to have him go into a painful coughing fit. He came home as well as another boy. School is about half full right now, because this icky thing is making it's rounds through school.

Me? I had it last week. I have had the nasty cough. It's the kind of cough that if you start to talk for a minute, or breathe through your mouth, suddenly you get the catch in your throat and you have to cough. It's dry, it accomplishes nothing except making your throat hurt more from too much coughing. I feel fine. Because I have strained my voice too much, I can't talk now. Honestly, if I go to use my voice, there is nothing there. So I am whispering. Makes for talking to kids interesting. To get hustled out of the house this morning, I found myself snapping my fingers or lightly clapping my hands. I just can't do the calling out, "Let's get going everyone!" This may change my whole parenting scheme at this point.

UPDATE: JM is lounging on the recliner. He asks me to take his temperature. Normally, he hates having his temperature taken and we have a long discussion of toys and privileges he will lose if he won't let us do it. Now he is asking me?

We ain't out of the woods yet folks, 102.5 F. Tylenol has been administered, and my plans for the next twenty four hours just changed--again.

Prediction: Your family will be sick less often next year when you homeschool because JM won't be bringing home as many germs. In comparison to families with kids in school, we get sick about 25% of the time.

I have to agree with Child of God...part of why we decided to homeschool was little K's compromised immune system and I can count on one hand how many times we have been sick in 2 years! Not being exposed in a germ utopia really helps.

I am so sorry to hear that you guys are still having to deal with this! That stinks! I was really hoping you were on the mend when I saw you Friday. We will pray for all of you to be much, much better soon.

I also hope things worked out for your husband. That is not a good time to be sick (when doing PhD work!)

Thinking of you all...

You all all so sweet. I have to say, I am glad I am out of the woods. I feel good, I just can't talk! Melenie, tell your sis I will make an attempt to call her Thursday. We have to close out her party, but by nine tonight, it was a whisper. I tried to make a few business calls and only managed to embarrass myself. I sound like Demi Moore on meth!

JM went to bed tonight with a fever, so we're home again tomorrow. He just slept and snoozed all day today. You know he's sick when he won't move for the whole day from the recliner.

And yes, I look forward to next year! Thank you homeschool moms! No huge sickness next year! Plus, I won't have manipulative little boys showing my son how to manipulate others!

Sigh....I am off to bed!
