Oregon is definitely known for it's rain. But one thing that doesn't happen often here are thunderstorms and hailstorms. I grew up Colorado where, during the summer months, there is a thunderstorm almost every afternoon. Not here! We got it today. It looked like snow. When I picked up JM from school, the kids were positively buzzing about it and thought it was fascinating. I thought it was too until the noise on the roof woke up the two year old from his nap.

The chickens are wondering of these new pellets are edible.

I had hail also but it didnt really stay on the ground much, but I drove out to West Linn and noticed the side of the road was steaming, and looked a lot like snow, it was crazy!
Downpour rain was the most I saw yesterday.. bleh!
cool pictures!
Don't your chickens get cold there in the winter? Or not? Or do you have some kind of warming apparatus for them? How does that work exactly? This city girl is clueless.
Chickens in cold weather! Good question. They are dumb animals for sure. They have a warm shelter in their pen, but many times, when it is super cold, they won't go in. A few years ago during an ice storm, I went to check on them and they were pecking around the ice with ice frozen on their backs. I forced them into their shelter and secured them inside until it warmed up. In their shelter, I have a light bulb as well. Between the three of them and a lightbulb, it gets quite sauna like in there when I shut them in. This was all a learning thing for me as well! This city girl has learned from hard knocks how to care for chickens. Hey! You could do a little thing on chickens with the kids while you're here. I could certainly have them feed them and pet them. Hmm.....
We didn't get hail down here. It does look pretty like snow. How long before it melted?
Honestly, we still had some on the ground the next day. It's been chilly here. JM's soccer game yesterday was pretty cold for us parents watching. Since then, it's been just the typical Oregon drizzly rain.
